Kubwa, Bwari Face Eight-Hour Power Outage

Residents of Kubwa, Bwari, Army Resettlement and some parts of Dutse Alhaji in Abuja are expected to experience an eight-hour power outage on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that electricity supply would be interrupted to allow engineers to carry out planned maintenance work at the 132/33kV Kubwa Substation.

The outage is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until 6:00 p.m. during the maintenance exercise.

According to TCN, the work will involve the replacement of a faulty 33kV NIPP feeder circuit breaker at the substation. Engineers will also replace a punctured yellow-phase current transformer as part of the maintenance operation.

The company said the exercise is necessary to allow its technical team to carry out the repairs and replace the affected equipment with new units.

As a result of the planned work, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will not be able to receive electricity from the affected transmission facility for distribution to customers in the areas covered by the outage.

Customers in Kubwa, Bwari, Army Resettlement, parts of Dutse Alhaji and nearby communities are therefore expected to remain without electricity throughout the maintenance period.

TCN said power supply to the affected areas would resume after the maintenance work is completed and the transmission facility is returned to normal operation.
