COVID 19: Akwa Ibom Govt Reopens All Markets

Akwa Ibom State Government has reopened all markets in the State for daily operations as from today, Saturday, August 8, 2020.

This was made known in a statement signed by Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, Secretary to the State Government and Chairman, Covid-19 Management Committee.

The statement read “Recall that during the course of the Covid 19 pandemic, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, had directed the partial closure and regulation of markets across the state. The directive was followed up with strict enforcement.

“After a careful analysis of the situation and the need to revamp trade at the market level, His Excellency, the Govenor, has approved the reopening of markets in the state for daily operations with effect from Saturday, 8th August,2020.

“Markets will however operate under the following conditions:

“Market authorities must ensure social distancing among both traders and buyers.

“All traders and buyers must wear face masks properly throughout their period of stay in the market.

“Hand washing equipment must be provided at all entry and exit points of the market.

“Market authorities are urged to strictly comply with the AKSG/NCDC/WHO COVID-19 guidelines and protocols.

“Take Notice that failure to strictly comply with the Covid-19 guidelines and protocols, will attract dire sanctions, including the closure of the defaulting market, as monitoring teams will be on patrol for enforcement.”
