Another Communal crisis looms in Ondo, family accused of reselling already developed lands

Another communal crisis may erupt at Chief Ajayi Ekekumo Layout, (Igbosanyin Community) Alagbaka Extension, Akure in Ondo State that may claim lives and properties if urgent action is not taken by the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN).

The crisis rocking the community is said to be similar to that of Isinigbo and Ode Communities in Akure, the Ondo State capital, where about four people were killed and several properties, including the Isinigbo palace were burnt.

A petition has been written to Governor Akeredolu to wade into the crisis rocking the Igbosanyin Community to avert unwanton maiming, killing, bloodbath and violent in the community.

The crisis has to do with the Elekumo Family and the occupants who are the owners of the land of the community as both laying claim of the community.

It was gathered that Elekumo family have started to resell lands in the community where houses have been built, claiming that they sold the lands in cheaper prices to the occupants in error.

John Olowookere, solicitor to one of the occupants of the lands, Mr. Paul Olopha Omoh in the petition noted that unless immediate actions are taken to call the erring family members to order, his client and other land owners in the community may be pushed to the wall “to return attack for attack and this may result to avoidable bloodbath as nobody has the monopoly of violent.”

“Our client and other parties to the dispute cannot continue to fold their hands in perpetuity and allow their sweat of many years to be destroyed before them unlawfully while the matter is still before a court of competent jurisdiction,” the lawyer said.

“The affected owners of the land on the disputed land hereby passionately appeal and call on the Governor to take note of the foregoing with a view to rise to the occasion to avert another communal crisis in the state,” he added.
