Court orders arrest of Chief of Army Staff for contempt

A High Court sitting in Minna, the Niger State capital, has ordered the arrest of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, for contempt.

The presiding judge, Justice Halima Abdulmalik, said the order followed the notice brought before the court in pursuant of order forty-two rule ten of the Niger State High Court Civil procedure 2018.

Justice Abdulmalik also ordered the arrest of the Commandant Training and Doctrine Command, Minna, Maj.-Gen. Olugbenga Olabanji, for contempt.

The judge ruled that the order is commuting Yahaya and Olabanji to be kept in Minna correctional custody for contentions of the order of the court on October 12, 2022.

She said the Chief of Army Staff and Olabanji will remain in custody until they purge themselves of the contempt.

Justice Abdulmalik, therefore, adjourned the case to December 8 for continuation.
