Kano Hisbah Vows To Deal With Its Official In Viral Social Media Video Defending LGBTQ

The Kano State Government has cleared the air on the social media post linking the Hisbah Board to LGBTQ, saying the state Shariah law prohibits same-sex marriage.

A widely circulated video featured a man claiming to be a Hisbah official defending the rights of the LGBTQ.

The Commander General of Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, briefed the media on the development in Kano on Monday.
Daurawa said even though Hisbah can confirm that the person in the video is its staff member, he attended the said workshop on his own and did not represent the body as he claimed.

Shaikh Daurawa said that Hisbah had been at loggerheads with gay clubs popularly called ‘Yan daudu’ in the state.

“Everyone is aware of how we are battling with Yan daudu. We raided and shut down events associated with gay persons in the state,” he said.

Daurawa added that Hisbah would not relent to deal with any organisation or individual that promotes the LGBTQ in the state, advising them to leave Kano as they have no place to hide in the state.

“We are aware that some NGOs in the state promote the LGBTQ movement. And we will not allow them to continue with what they are doing,” he said.

Daurawa also threatened to deal with the Hisbah official in the video in circulation for his alleged offence.

“We have since transferred this case to our disciplinary unit and I am sure they will deal with him accordingly,” he said.

He called on the general public to be vigilant with the activities of LGBTQ members as they are in every nook and cranny of the state spreading and luring youths into their clubs.

On his part, the embattled Hisbah official, Idris Ahmed, said that he was ignorant of the meaning of the LGBTQ, apologising to Hisbah Board to forgive him.

“Honestly all I know about this organization is they were into empowering women. And I attended their workshop several times, not knowing what they were actually promoting. In fact I didn’t know the meaning of the word LGBTQ. “I am apologizing to Hisbah for what I did,” he said.

The state Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, had directed Hisbah to descend on organisations promoting LGBTQ under the guise of addressing gender inequality.
