The African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Rivers State has pledged to stand with the Emohua Local Government workers recently dismissed by the council chairman, Hon. Chidi Lloyd.

The dispute began when Lloyd, after securing a second term in office, removed more than 300 workers from the payroll. During his first tenure, he had also dismissed the same workers, claiming they were ghost employees, but they were later reinstated by Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the height of the political crisis in the state.

Following the latest sack, the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Rivers State chapter, ordered its members in all 23 local councils to begin a one-week warning strike. The action, however, was suspended after Governor Fubara stepped in to ease the tension.

In response, the ADC described the decision to sack the workers as harsh and insensitive, especially during a period of economic hardship. The party accused the local council leadership of disregarding the welfare of citizens and warned that such acts would no longer go unchallenged.
The ADC chairman, Chief Sampson Leader, after meeting with political adviser Dr. Fortune Alfred, vowed that the party would continue to fight for the rights of workers and resist any further abuse of power in Rivers State. He added that the party would remain committed to ensuring justice and would not relent until the affected workers are treated fairly.
