A fire outbreak on Tuesday destroyed 26 shops at Bariga Market in Lagos before emergency officials were able to bring the situation under control.

The incident, which started in the early hours, left traders counting losses as goods worth millions of naira were consumed by the flames.According to initial findings, the fire is believed to have started from one of the shops before spreading quickly to others.

The wooden partitions used in the stalls helped the flames move rapidly from one unit to another, making containment difficult at first.The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, supported by other responders, rushed to the scene and worked to stop the fire from extending to more areas of the market.
