Oyekunle Sworn In as New Oyo Rep Member

The House of Representatives on Tuesday swore in Folajimi Oyekunle as the new lawmaker representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State.

The ceremony took place during plenary at the National Assembly, Abuja, with Speaker Abbas Tajudeen administering the oath of office and allegiance.Mr Oyekunle, who contested under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), takes over the seat formerly occupied by the late Olaide Akinremi, who passed away in July 2024.

His induction completes one of the pending replacements from the by-elections held by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on August 16, 2025.The swearing-in follows last week’s inauguration of four other lawmakers who also won in the same round of by-elections.

They include Omosede Igbinedion of Edo State, representing Ovia Federal Constituency; Muktar Rabiu of Jigawa State, representing Garki/Babura Federal Constituency; Joseph Bagudu of Kaduna State, representing Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency; and Yetunde Elegbeji of Ogun State, representing Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency.

Their induction into the Green Chamber marks progress in filling vacant seats created by previous officeholders who either passed away or assumed new positions.

With Oyekunle’s swearing-in, the House continues to rebuild its full membership following months of replacements caused by deaths and political transitions among its members.
