The All Progressives Congress (APC) has chosen the consensus method to select its candidate for the upcoming Ekiti State governorship primary election. The decision was announced on Tuesday in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

The party decided to adopt the consensus approach after one of the two cleared aspirants, Mrs. Atinuke Omolayo, voluntarily withdrew from the race. Her withdrawal left Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the only remaining contender for the party’s ticket.

Omolayo informed the party of her withdrawal through a formal letter, where she also expressed support for Governor Oyebanji’s candidacy and for any process the party decides to use in line with the 2022 Electoral Act and its constitution.The APC leadership has notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the development.

With the withdrawal confirmed, the party said it had met all legal requirements for adopting the consensus mode of primary election as stated under Sections 84(9) and (11) of the Electoral Act.The party announced that its delegate congress will be held on Saturday, followed by an appeal session on October 26.
A special nomination congress will then take place on October 27 to officially ratify the consensus candidate.The APC commended Omolayo for her decision to step aside, describing it as an act that supports party unity and progress.
The party called on its leaders, members, and stakeholders in Ekiti State to remain united and work together toward ensuring victory in the June 2026 governorship election.
