The former Chief Judge of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Justice Peter Umeadi, has announced his resignation from the party and his withdrawal from partisan politics.

Umeadi, aged 70, made this known in a letter dated October 24, 2025, which he addressed to the chairman of APGA Ward 1 in Nri, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

In the letter, he officially informed the party of his decision to leave and expressed gratitude to the leadership of APGA for giving him the opportunity to represent the party during the 2023 presidential election.The retired jurist joined APGA on March 20, 2019, and emerged as the party’s presidential flag bearer in June 2022.

During his campaign, he focused on promoting the rule of law, separation of powers, and due process as the foundation for fairness and good governance in Nigeria.Before entering politics, Umeadi served as the Chief Judge of Anambra State from 2011 to 2019.
His presidential bid, under the Umeadi–Mohammed ticket, was seen as an attempt to introduce intellectual depth and judicial integrity into Nigeria’s political landscape.In December 2022, ahead of the election, Umeadi maintained that Nigeria’s political progress would improve if a president from the South East emerged under APGA.
With his resignation from the party and politics, Umeadi ends a brief but notable period in national politics, marking a return to private life after decades of service in the judiciary and a short stint in political leadership.
