PDP Board of Trustees Calls for Unity, Postponement of National Convention

The newly reconstituted Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held its inaugural and emergency meeting on Friday, November 8, 2025, in Abuja, where it discussed the current situation within the party, the recent Federal High Court judgment, and the plans for the forthcoming National Convention.

During the meeting, the BoT reaffirmed that the PDP remains one united and democratic party guided by justice, equity, and progress. It also recognized the authority of all legitimate organs of the party and expressed confidence in the ongoing efforts to restore order and discipline in line with the recent court judgment delivered on October 31, 2025.

The Board directed all party officers to comply fully with the court ruling and praised the judiciary for maintaining professionalism and upholding the supremacy of the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the PDP Constitution, which form the basis of the party’s internal democracy.

The BoT also declared its support for a credible and transparent National Convention but stressed that every pre-convention activity must follow the constitutional provisions and the court’s judgment. It warned that any action taken outside these legal boundaries would be null and void.

Referring to the pending appeal against the Federal High Court ruling, the BoT noted that it would be wise to delay the National Convention until the Court of Appeal delivers its verdict, stating that the Federal High Court judgment carries more weight in law than the interim order from the Oyo State High Court.

In a move to strengthen neutrality and integrity within its ranks, the BoT announced the election of Senator Mao Ohuabunwa as its new Chairman and Hon. Isah Dansidi as Secretary. The decision followed the exit of Senator Adolphus Wabara and Senator Ahmed Makarfi, who had previously taken sides in the party’s internal crisis. The Board expressed appreciation to the outgoing officers for their service to the party.

The BoT urged all members to maintain unity, mutual respect, and commitment to the party’s progress, noting that reconciliation and cooperation remain essential to restoring peace within the PDP. It restated its resolve to promote transparency, inclusiveness, and respect for the rule of law as key principles of the party’s democratic culture.

Concluding the meeting, the BoT called on all members, leaders, and supporters across Nigeria and abroad to work together toward a peaceful and successful National Convention that would strengthen the unity and credibility of the PDP. The Board pledged to continue acting as the moral guide of the party and a symbol of democratic values in the country.
