Former Senator representing Abia North, Mao Ohuabunwa, has been appointed as the new factional Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His emergence followed the dissolution of the Adolphus Wabara-led board by a faction loyal to the party’s Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammad.
The decision was made during the inaugural and emergency meeting of the reconstituted BoT held in Abuja on Friday, November 7, 2025. The meeting also produced Hon. Isah Dansidi as the new Secretary, replacing Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
According to the communique released after the meeting, the Board explained that Wabara and Makarfi could no longer continue in their previous positions because they had openly taken sides in the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP. The BoT said this development affected their neutrality and the moral authority expected from leaders of the board.
The newly formed BoT reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the PDP remains a united and democratic party built on justice, equity, and progress. It also expressed support for the postponement of the party’s planned National Convention, citing the need to respect ongoing judicial proceedings.
The Board stated that the Federal High Court judgment on the party’s leadership crisis carries more legal weight than the interim order from the Oyo State High Court. It added that it would be proper to delay the convention until the Court of Appeal delivers its ruling on the matter.
The development marks another phase in the party’s internal struggle for control, as the PDP leadership continues efforts to restore order and unity within its ranks.
