Police Caution Politicians Ahead of Anambra Governorship Election

The Nigeria Police Force has issued a strong warning to politicians in Anambra State ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025. The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Force Intelligence, Benjamin Okolo, cautioned political actors against any actions that could cause unrest or disrupt the peace during the exercise.

Okolo, who is also supervising election operations in the state, spoke at the state police headquarters in Awka, where he assured residents that the police and other security agencies were fully ready to ensure a peaceful, fair, and credible election.

He explained that all directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had been implemented, including the deployment of personnel, vehicles, and intelligence resources across the 21 local government areas of the state. According to him, security operatives have been strategically stationed to respond quickly to emergencies and prevent any outbreak of violence during and after the polls.

The DIG noted that the police had held peace meetings with political stakeholders to encourage calmness and mutual respect among candidates. He said all governorship candidates were made to sign a peace accord as part of efforts to discourage violence and promote orderly conduct during the election period.

Okolo urged residents to come out and vote without fear, assuring that the police had been properly trained to act with professionalism and neutrality throughout the process.

In a related statement, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Air Wing, Martins Nwogo, disclosed that the state’s airspace had been secured for the election. He added that aerial surveillance would continue across Anambra to detect and prevent any form of disruption.

Both officers reaffirmed the commitment of the police and other security agencies to safeguard lives, protect electoral materials, and ensure that the election is peaceful and credible across the state.
