Former NNPP Governorship Candidate Ajadi Joins PDP

The 2023 governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Ogun State, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has formally resigned from the party and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ajadi made the announcement on Monday during a press conference, where he presented copies of his resignation letter to journalists. The letters were also addressed to the NNPP leadership at the ward, local government, state, regional, and national levels.

He explained that his decision followed deep reflection on Nigeria’s current political climate and his desire to work within a broader and stronger political structure capable of fostering national unity and rebuilding citizens’ confidence in governance.

Ajadi, who was the NNPP governorship flagbearer in the 2023 general election, said his move to the PDP was driven by conviction and renewed purpose rather than conflict. He added that his departure from the NNPP did not stem from disagreement but from the need to align with a platform he believes can deliver true federalism, youth empowerment, and inclusive leadership.

The Ogun politician, who once stepped down as a presidential aspirant in support of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, noted that Nigeria’s worsening economic situation and governance challenges demand collective action from patriotic citizens across party lines.

According to him, the country is at a turning point and requires leaders who genuinely listen to the people and work selflessly for the nation’s progress. He expressed confidence that his entry into the PDP will strengthen the party’s grassroots structure and help rebuild public trust in the democratic system.

Leaders of the PDP in the South-West welcomed Ajadi’s defection, describing it as a major boost for the party. They commended his reputation for integrity, youth engagement, and community service, which they believe will further enhance the PDP’s image and outreach in Ogun State.

Ajadi reaffirmed his readiness to work with PDP leaders at all levels to promote transparency, peace-building, and effective governance. He said his focus remains on rekindling citizens’ hope in democracy and ensuring that Nigerians experience genuine dividends of good governance.
