The incident left one officer shot in the chest and several others injured. Ahead of the election, 45,000 police personnel were deployed across the state to maintain order. The election saw incumbent Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance win in all 21 local government areas, receiving 422,664 votes. His closest rival, APC candidate Nicholas Ukachukwu, secured 99,445 votes, while Labour Party candidate George Moghalu and African Democratic Congress candidate John Chuma-Nwosu came third and fourth, respectively.
