The controversy began after the PDP reportedly urged Matawalle to remain in Abuja instead of visiting the state. In response, the APC accused the ruling party of being uneasy about the minister’s growing influence and the increasing defection of its members to the opposition.

The APC maintained that the minister, who hails from Zamfara, has the constitutional right to visit any part of the country and meet with his supporters. The party also claimed that Matawalle had previously been directed by President Bola Tinubu to operate from a different state due to political tension in Zamfara.

The dispute underscores the deepening rivalry between both parties ahead of the 2027 elections, as political alignments and defections continue to reshape the state’s political atmosphere.
