The Federal Capital Territory Administration said it will begin a new waste management system on Monday, November 17, 2025, as part of plans to keep Abuja clean and restore order to the city’s sanitation structure. The information came after the FCT Executive Committee Meeting held in Abuja and chaired by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

After the meeting, the Coordinator of the Abuja Municipal Management Council, Chief Felix Amechi Obuah, told reporters that the committee approved the engagement of new contractors who will handle waste collection and management in different parts of the FCT. He said the approval also covers the purchase of basic treatment plants and the upkeep and operation of utility vehicles that will help supervise waste operations.

Obuah noted that residents had earlier complained about poor waste disposal across the city and added that the new system is expected to improve the state of cleanliness in Abuja.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Hon. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, said the committee approved payment for an emergency evacuation contract. The project covers the removal of waste from open dumps, waterways, and streams in Dogon Gada community in the Abuja Municipal Area Council. He said the contract was awarded for N111,913,176.
In another approval, the FCT Transportation Secretary, Hon. Chinedum Elechi, said funds were cleared for printing services for the Directorate of Road Transport Services. He added that the administration also approved the maintenance of 34 old traffic lights and the installation of three new traffic lights in the Federal Capital City.
Earlier in the meeting, the Chief of Staff to the Minister, Hon. Chidi Amadi, restated the Minister’s commitment to ensuring a clean environment across the FCT. He said the Minister remains focused on improving waste management and keeping Abuja in a clean and orderly state.
