US Congressman Riley M. Moore has stated that Nigeria must meet two main conditions before any military cooperation with the United States can be considered to help tackle the country’s security challenges. He made this known during an interview with an American news channel while discussing violence and unrest in Nigeria.

According to Moore, the first condition is the release of Sunday Jackson, a young Nigerian who was sentenced to death after killing a Fulani herdsman. The case was reported to involve an alleged farm invasion, which Jackson claimed was an act of self-defence. Moore said the young man’s freedom is necessary before any serious military partnership talks can continue.

He also stated that the second condition is for the Nigerian government to come up with a clear and workable plan to disarm armed Fulani herdsmen, especially in the Middle Belt region where many violent attacks have been reported. He made it clear that the United States would only consider working closely with Nigeria’s military if real steps are taken to control armed groups and reduce unrest in affected communities.

Moore noted that Nigerian officials had met with him and members of the US administration and that discussions had already started. However, he said that more concrete actions were needed from the Nigerian government before any final partnership agreement could be reached.
This development comes as Nigeria continues to battle kidnappings, attacks on farms, school abductions and rising insecurity across several regions, especially in the Middle Belt and northern parts of the country.
