The Federal Government has approved the promotion of 24,202 senior officers across the four paramilitary agencies under the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board. The approval was announced on Monday in Abuja by the Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Board, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who was represented by the Board’s Secretary, Abdulmalik Jubril.

The promoted officers make up the second group of senior personnel elevated this year across the Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Fire Service, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. According to the breakdown released by the board, 11,426 officers advanced in the Correctional Service, 4,336 in the Immigration Service, 2,581 in the Fire Service, and 5,859 in the Civil Defence Corps.

The minister explained that the promotions were granted after a review of performance records, national spread, available vacancies, and other internal requirements. He stated that the exercise was carried out to improve the morale of the personnel and support better service delivery in the various agencies.

He also noted that career progression had suffered delays in past years, but the current administration has made efforts to improve welfare and remove barriers that slowed down advancement. He added that improving the career path of officers is part of the wider plan to strengthen the nation’s internal security structure.
Last year, the same board promoted 20,867 senior officers across the paramilitary services as part of ongoing efforts to address long-standing promotion gaps and improve the working conditions of personnel.
