The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has called off its governorship primary, initially scheduled for December 2, 2025, citing internal party disputes that have created uncertainty around the process. The party revealed that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s interest in pursuing the PDP ticket for the 2026 election is now unclear due to ongoing crises within the party.

The cancellation follows escalating conflicts at the national level of the PDP, including suspension and counter-suspension of key party officers responsible for organizing primaries and submitting candidates’ names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). These disputes disrupted pre-primary activities, such as ward and local government congresses that were supposed to select delegates for the governorship election. Many of these issues are currently under review in various courts across the country.

Governor Adeleke had completed all initial requirements to contest the PDP ticket, including purchasing and submitting the nomination and expression of interest forms and receiving clearance from the screening committee. Despite this, the party’s internal turmoil has cast doubt on whether he will continue with the nomination process unless the national leadership dispute is resolved in a manner recognized by INEC and within its electoral timetable.

The PDP in Osun has long been affected by factional disputes, and reports suggest that Governor Adeleke might consider leaving the party if the crisis persists, though no alternative party has been confirmed as his potential destination.
