The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has begun ward congresses across many states in Nigeria. The exercise started on Tuesday, December 2, and is taking place in different locations under the supervision of teams sent by the national leadership. The party said the process will continue with Local Government congresses on Thursday, December 4, while state congresses are scheduled for Saturday, December 6, at the party’s state offices.

The only state not taking part is Abia. A High Court order in Abia stopped the party from holding its congress there until a case involving the state leadership is resolved. The party said it will respect the order for now, even though it believes the court lacks the power to issue it. Its legal team has already started steps to remove the order so Abia can conduct its congress later.

The party noted that reports from officials monitoring the congresses across the country show progress and orderliness. It also urged Nigerians to support the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 general election, adding that it is working to strengthen its structure and increase its ability to take leadership at the national level.
