The party had recently removed Wike, former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and eight others, accusing them of working against the party and creating tension through court cases filed against its interests. Along with their removal, the party dissolved its structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.

Turaki explained that the expulsion certificates had already been dispatched to the affected members through courier services. He noted that the party took the action after reviewing their activities and concluding that their actions had weakened the party.

The development followed weeks of internal conflict within the PDP, during which many leaders in the Turaki-led group argued that the expelled members no longer aligned with the direction of the party.
