The Federal Government on Sunday secured the release of 100 pupils who were abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, a community in the Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State. The update was reported by major television stations, including TVC News and Channels Television, although federal officials had not issued a formal announcement at the time it was made public.

The victims were taken on November 21 when armed men invaded the remote area around 2 am. The attackers arrived on motorbikes and moved from house to house before heading to the school. They operated for nearly three hours without resistance, forcing hundreds of people into the forest. In total, 315 individuals were taken away, including 303 pupils and 12 members of staff.

Within the first day of the attack, about 50 children managed to escape and were brought back home by security teams and local volunteers. Their return brought some relief to families, but 265 victims remained in captivity until the latest development. With 100 now freed, families in the community are waiting for confirmation about the condition of the remaining hostages and when they may also regain their freedom.
