Adeleke Defects To Accord Party, Declares Bid for Second Term

Osun State witnessed a major political shift on Tuesday when Governor Ademola Adeleke announced that he has joined the Accord Party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party. The move was made public at the Government House in Osogbo during a gathering that brought together national and state leaders of Accord.

The governor explained that he entered the party earlier in November after weeks of talks with political associates, community figures, and supporters across the state. He told the gathering that he decided on Accord because he wanted a platform he could use to contest for a second term in 2026. He also said he chose the party because its core beliefs match his focus on protecting the welfare of citizens and workers.

Adeleke said he believes the new party gives him the room he needs to complete various projects started since 2022. He noted that his administration has continued to work on improving infrastructure and social programmes across towns and local governments in Osun. According to him, residents across the three senatorial districts know the reason for the change, and he is confident that his government will receive their support again.

He welcomed Accord Party leaders to the Government House and said they are now united in the goal of winning the 2026 election. He explained that he hopes all groups within the party will work together, as he wants a leadership style that carries everyone along. He noted that his months in the party have shown him that Accord gives priority to public welfare, which he believes should always be the main duty of any government.

The governor listed the various towns and zones in the state and said the new party platform will serve as a fresh base for the next election. He called on supporters across Osun to stand with the party in the coming months as they prepare for the polls. Adeleke said he is focused on continuity and is sure that many residents want ongoing development instead of a change in direction.

Before now, Adeleke had confirmed that he resigned from the PDP on November 4. He submitted his letter at his ward in Ede North Local Government, noting that internal problems at the national level of the PDP forced him to make the decision. He appreciated the party for the opportunities it gave him as a senator and later as governor but said he needed a peaceful and steady platform for the next election cycle.

With this new step, Adeleke has now formally positioned himself for the 2026 governorship race under the Accord Party, setting the stage for another round of political activity in Osun State.
