Tinubu Meets Osun APC Aspirants, Pushes for Consensus

President Bola Tinubu met with leaders and governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State on Monday night in Abuja, where he urged them to work as one team and support a single candidate for the party’s December 13 primary.

The meeting, which took place at the State House and was later confirmed through a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, brought together top party members and those hoping to contest the next governorship election under the APC.

Those present included former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), Babatunde Hareter Oralusi, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. The APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, were also present.

During the meeting, Tinubu thanked the aspirants for their loyalty to the party but reminded them that past internal fights damaged the party’s chances in the last Osun governorship election. He told them that the next poll offers the APC another opportunity and urged them to avoid rivalry that can weaken the party.

He said they must put the party first, unite behind whoever is chosen, and work together to win the 2025 election. He told them to respect the party’s decision on the nomination process and fully support the chosen aspirant.

At the end of the meeting, the aspirants and leaders issued a joint statement agreeing to back the consensus method. They accepted that the party has the authority to decide how the candidate will be chosen, promised not to take actions that can harm the APC, and vowed to stand together as the election draws near.

They also committed to working for the party’s victory in 2025 and said they would support peace and stable leadership in the state.

According to the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, all political parties must submit their candidates for the August 8, 2026 Osun governorship election by December 15.
