The presentation of the All Progressives Congress membership card to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara took place on Friday at the Government House in Port Harcourt. The event involved the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, and the Rivers State APC Chairman, Tony Okocha, who arrived at the Government House to complete the process days after the governor announced his move from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC.

The governor had earlier revealed his decision during a stakeholders’ meeting, saying he would begin the formal steps of joining the party. Keyamo was also in the state for the inauguration of a government project.

At the meeting, Okocha stated that he was directed by the APC National Chairman to present the card to the governor. He commended the governor for deciding to enter the party and described the visit as part of the party’s plan to welcome him properly.

Governor Fubara, while receiving the card and the APC crest, restated that he chose to move into the party to support the state and ensure cooperation with the federal government. He noted that his decision was tied to the interest of Rivers people and the need to work in alignment with the ruling party at the centre. He added that President Bola Tinubu played a role in helping him remain in office during the political tension in the state.
The governor said he joined the APC to work closely with the President ahead of the 2027 election and to make the work of governance easier for the state. He also assured the party leadership that the Rivers branch would receive full support under his watch. He said all needs of the state executive and the party structure would now fall under his responsibility.
Governor Fubara maintained that his entry into the APC places the party in a stronger position in Rivers State and promised to ensure the party operates smoothly going forward.
