The Accord Party has officially presented its Certificate of Return to Opeyemi Falegan as its candidate for the June 2026 Ekiti State governorship election. The certificate was handed to him by the party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, during a ceremony held in Abuja. The presentation followed Falegan’s victory at the party’s governorship primary election conducted on November 8, 2025.

The development comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission scheduled party primaries in Ekiti State between October 20 and November 10, 2025, with the final list of candidates expected to be released in January 2026. Accord Party completed its process within the approved period, leading to Falegan’s emergence as its flagbearer.

During the event, party leaders described Falegan’s emergence as a reflection of the confidence party members have in his leadership ability and political experience. They expressed hope that the party would record a strong performance in the 2026 governorship election and urged members to remain active as preparations continue for upcoming off-cycle elections in Ekiti and other states.

The party leadership also advised Falegan to build an inclusive campaign structure that reflects grassroots participation and focuses on issues affecting the people of Ekiti State. The need for disciplined conduct, respect for party rules, and avoidance of divisive politics was stressed as the campaign season approaches.
In his response, Falegan appreciated party delegates for supporting his candidacy and outlined his plans for the state if elected governor. He said his administration would give attention to agriculture, education, youth employment, and infrastructure. He also promised to empower young people regularly and improve major roads across the state within a short period.
Falegan further criticised the current administration in Ekiti State, claiming that governance in the state is heavily influenced by former leaders rather than being people-focused. He assured party members and residents that his ambition is driven by a desire to change the direction of governance and improve living conditions in the state.
