The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has invited billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote to appear before its investigators in Abuja following a petition he submitted against Farouk Ahmed, the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
The anti-graft agency fixed Monday for Dangote to present himself or be represented by his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja, as it begins a formal probe into the allegations contained in the petition. The Commission set up a special investigation panel after receiving the complaint and directed the team to focus fully on the issues raised by Dangote.
Dangote accused Ahmed of corruption and misuse of public funds while in office. The petition claims that the former NMDPRA boss spent several million dollars on the education of his four children in Switzerland without proof of lawful income. It also alleges that Ahmed weakened local refining efforts by working with foreign oil traders and importers through the continued approval of fuel import licences.
The ICPC has asked Dangote to submit documents and other materials to support his claims as part of the investigation process. Although Farouk Ahmed has resigned from his position, the Commission stated that his exit from office does not stop the investigation, as the allegations relate to actions taken while he was still a public official.
The petition further seeks Ahmed’s arrest and prosecution, accusing him of living beyond his legitimate earnings during his time in public service. The ICPC confirmed that it officially received the petition on December 16, 2025, through Dangote’s legal representative and has since moved to act on it.
