Wike said the PDP may struggle in the 2027 election if the current situation within the party continues. He explained that the party’s leadership lacks direction, discipline, and the ability to accept advice. According to him, these problems have weakened the party and affected its chances of returning to power soon.
He stated that leadership plays a major role in the success or failure of any organization, including political parties. He noted that the PDP leadership has failed to make the right choices and has ignored warnings that could have helped prevent the present crisis. He added that the issues facing the party did not come as a surprise, as he had spoken about them repeatedly in the past.
The minister said that instead of focusing only on winning power, the party should first rebuild itself. He suggested that if changes are not made before 2027, the PDP should begin serious preparations for 2031. He explained that rebuilding requires commitment, proper planning, and leaders who are ready to take responsibility for their actions.
Wike also said that the party can still regain power in the future if its leaders show seriousness and dedication. He warned that bad decisions always come with consequences and that failure to act now could further damage the party. He stressed that strong leadership is needed at all levels to move the PDP forward and keep it alive in Nigeria’s political space.
