Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has announced his intention to run for the Kogi Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections. He made this known during a visit to the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, where he met with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders from the senatorial district.
The declaration was made during a gathering attended by key political figures, including the current Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo. The event was later shared through a video posted on Bello’s verified social media page, showing him addressing leaders and supporters from the area.
During the visit, Governor Ododo appealed to Bello to accept the request of party leaders and residents who want him to represent Kogi Central at the National Assembly. The appeal was made openly in the presence of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland and other influential community figures.
Bello, who governed Kogi State from 2016 to 2024, remains an influential figure within the All Progressives Congress in the state. Supporters say his experience and political network would benefit the district if elected.
Reacting to the announcement, the Chairman of Okehi Local Government Area, Amoka Eneji, congratulated Bello and praised his past efforts toward unity and development among the Ebira people. He stated that Bello’s role in the growth of Ebiraland would continue to be remembered.
The Kogi Central Senatorial seat is currently held by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was elected in 2023 and became the first woman to represent the district in the Senate. Bello’s declaration sets the stage for a keen contest as the 2027 elections approach.
