Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has said he is open to working with another political party ahead of the 2027 general elections, but only on the condition that such a party presents him with either its presidential ticket or vice-presidential slot. He made this known while speaking to supporters during a Kwankwasiyya gathering in Kano, where discussions focused on ongoing political movements across the country.
Kwankwaso explained that discussions were ongoing at the national level about possible alignments, but made it clear that he would not join any platform without a clear and serious offer that places him on the presidential ballot. According to him, any alliance must reflect his political standing and years of influence in national politics.
His comments came amid growing rumours that Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, may be considering a move from the NNPP to the All Progressives Congress. Kwankwaso dismissed such reports, stating that they were unrealistic and had no basis.
The former governor of Kano State also spoke on the current political climate under President Bola Tinubu. He argued that having many governors under one party does not automatically lead to victory during elections. He noted that voter trust, public acceptance, and leadership record still play major roles in determining electoral outcomes.
Kwankwaso’s remarks have added fresh momentum to conversations around possible coalitions, defections, and power arrangements as political actors prepare for the 2027 elections. Analysts believe his position signals that negotiations among major political players may intensify in the coming months.
