The Oyo State APC Professionals has warned leaders of the ruling party not to depend on Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for support ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. The group claimed that the governor cannot be trusted, alleging that he is playing two sides in the political space.
In a statement issued after its meeting, the group, through its Chief Convener, Adekunle Lawal, alleged that Fubara has been providing financial support to an APC faction in Rivers State loyal to former governor Rotimi Amaechi. According to the group, this faction has openly spoken in defence of Fubara during the ongoing impeachment issues in the state, raising concerns about his true political alignment.
The APC-P stated that the Emeka Beke-led faction of the party in Rivers State is widely known to be aligned with Amaechi. It claimed that Fubara mobilised this faction with funds to speak on his behalf, a move the group described as proof that the governor’s loyalty does not lie with the APC leadership backing President Tinubu.
The group also raised concerns about the role of the party’s National Secretary, Ajibola Bashiru, noting his public defence of Fubara despite not being the party’s official spokesperson. It linked Bashiru to former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, pointing out that both Aregbesola and Amaechi are now associated with the African Democratic Congress.
According to the APC-P, Fubara’s political circle is largely made up of allies of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who are also believed to be aligned with the ADC. Based on these connections, the group described the Rivers governor as someone using the APC as temporary cover in his political conflict with his former ally and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The group advised President Tinubu and other APC leaders to be cautious in dealing with Fubara, insisting that his actions suggest he is not fully committed to the party or its future plans.
