The Labour Party faction loyal to Nenadi Usman in Rivers State has moved its entire party structure into the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general election. The decision was announced in Port Harcourt during a press briefing addressed by the state chairman, Gogo Wellington, alongside party leaders.
The group directed Labour Party members and supporters of the Obidient Movement across the 23 local government areas of the state to shift their activities to the ADC. The move follows Peter Obi’s recent switch to the ADC after the party was adopted by a coalition of opposition figures preparing to challenge the ruling party in 2027.
Wellington said the Rivers chapter had taken the step to stay united with Obi and the wider opposition platform. He called on members to mobilise at the grassroots and work within the ADC structure to build support ahead of the next election cycle.
He also said current economic hardship and rising insecurity informed the decision, adding that the group believes a change of leadership is needed. According to him, the Rivers LP faction will work with the coalition to push its agenda nationwide while backing Obi’s political direction going forward.
