The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, has dismissed reports suggesting a rift between him and Governor Monday Okpebholo, saying efforts to create division within the state leadership will fail.
Idahosa made this known in a statement released on Friday in Benin City, where he warned those behind the rumours to focus on issues that would support the administration’s development plans instead of spreading false stories. He described the reports as deliberate attempts to distract the government from its responsibilities.
According to him, the unity between himself and the governor remains strong, adding that attempts to weaken their working relationship are pointless. He said the administration is more concerned with governance and service delivery than online campaigns aimed at discrediting its leaders.
The deputy governor also assured residents that he remains fully committed to supporting Governor Okpebholo and the policies of the current government. He said attacks targeted at the governor, himself, and other officials would not affect their focus or teamwork.
Idahosa urged the people of Edo State to continue supporting the government as it works to fulfil its promises. He noted that the administration remains committed to improving the welfare of residents under its development plan known as the SHINE Agenda.
In recent months, the relationship between the governor and his deputy has attracted public attention amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections. Despite the speculation, both leaders have continued to appear together at official functions and project launches since taking office in November 2024.
The Okpebholo administration’s SHINE Agenda focuses on security, health, infrastructure, nutrition, and education, with both the governor and his deputy playing key roles in its implementation.
