Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, a former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, has ordered the dissolution of his campaign organisation and instructed his supporters to join the campaign structure of the party’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the 2026 election.
Ogunbiyi, who is also the chairman of Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, issued the directive during a meeting with leaders and members of his campaign group, Idera De Movement, drawn from the 30 local government areas of the state. The meeting was held in Osogbo as part of an appreciation gathering for his supporters.
He told his coordinators across federal constituencies and local councils to put aside previous divisions and work as one body for the success of the party. Ogunbiyi explained that the governorship ticket had gone to a candidate from Osun West Senatorial District, which was a key demand of the district, and urged his supporters to accept the party’s decision.
According to him, all aspirants who contested for the APC ticket had agreed to work together to ensure victory for the party. He said his personal ambition had been set aside in the interest of unity, adding that his immediate focus was to ensure that Oyebamiji wins the governorship election scheduled for August.
Ogunbiyi also assured that the APC could count on strong support from Iwo Federal Constituency, noting that the area has a large voting population and a history of backing the party. He pledged to mobilise voters across the constituency to support Oyebamiji and the APC.
Speaking on his future plans, Ogunbiyi said his attention would shift to the next election cycle after the governorship contest, expressing interest in contesting for a senatorial seat from Osun West, subject to party support and leadership approval.
It will be recalled that Ogunbiyi and six other aspirants were disqualified from the APC governorship primary held on December 13, 2025, due to issues linked to their nomination processes. Despite initial tension, the matter was resolved, and most of the affected aspirants later participated in the primary, which produced Bola Oyebamiji as the party’s candidate.
