The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party has announced plans to appeal a judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan that nullified its National Convention held in the city. The party said the ruling does not end its leadership structure and insisted it remains lawful as the legal process continues.
In a statement released on Friday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the faction explained that the court declined to grant an order of mandamus sought by the party. The court held that granting such an order would amount to reviewing decisions of courts with equal authority.
Following the decision, the party said it immediately instructed its lawyers to file an appeal and take further steps to defend its position. It maintained that the leadership that emerged from the Ibadan convention remains in place while it awaits the outcome of proceedings at the appellate courts.
The faction also called on its members to remain calm and united, stating that there is no cause for concern despite the court ruling. It added that its internal reform agenda, known as the Rebirth Movement, remains active as the party continues to address its leadership dispute through the courts.
