Prof Adedayo Faduyile, former president of the Nigerian Medical Association and specialist in pathology and forensic medicine, has declared his intention to contest the Ondo South Senatorial District seat in the National Assembly. The announcement was made in Okitipupa, Ondo State, following the vacancy created by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim’s appointment as an ambassador by President Bola Tinubu.
Faduyile, who previously served as Special Adviser on Health to the Ondo State Government, explained that he has informed leaders of the All Progressives Congress in his Ikoya Ward, Okitipupa Local Government Area, and in Akure, the state capital, about his decision. He said his ambition comes after consultations with political leaders and stakeholders across the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has not yet scheduled the by-election, which will allow the winner to complete the remaining term of the former senator. Faduyile pointed to his experience both at the grassroots level and in high-level positions, including his current role as Chairman of the Governing Council and Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Kontagora.
He also referenced his time as NMA president, during which he engaged with the Presidency and National Assembly on health policies, as part of his preparation for legislative responsibilities. Faduyile described the senatorial seat as one that requires a unifying figure capable of bridging political, traditional, and professional interests.
The former NMA president called on APC leaders to support his candidacy, citing his loyalty to the party and his readiness to serve diligently if elected. He stated that he plans to begin work immediately in the Senate to represent the interests of Ondo State and Nigerians effectively.
