Dantani said his withdrawal followed consultations and intervention by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

He explained that after discussions with party leaders, family members and other stakeholders, he agreed not to continue in the race. He added that he had formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission of his decision by submitting a letter of withdrawal.

In his message to supporters, Dantani thanked those who stood by his campaign across the 12 wards of AMAC. He urged them to vote for Maikalangu in the upcoming election.

He also linked his decision to party unity and support for the current administration at the federal level.

In the letter sent to INEC, Dantani stated that he was stepping down from the contest for the AMAC chairmanship position scheduled for February 21, 2026.

He described the decision as voluntary and taken after careful consideration and consultation with relevant stakeholders. He maintained that the move was made of his own free will.

The development comes shortly after Julius Adamu, the PDP chairmanship candidate for Bwari Area Council, also withdrew from the race and backed the APC candidate, Joshua Ishaku Musa, ahead of the same election date.
