The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, on Thursday, February 19, 2026, in Nigeria, searched the residence of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as part of an ongoing investigation.

The action was made known by his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, while his lawyer, Ubong Akpan, reacted to the development and criticised the operation.

According to the information released, ICPC officials carried out a search at El-Rufai’s residence earlier in the day. His legal representative described the move as improper and against established legal procedures as well as the rights of his client.
The anti-corruption agency later confirmed that the former governor is currently in its custody. This came shortly after reports that he had been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS.

The arrest reportedly took place on Wednesday after he was granted bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
El-Rufai’s latest arrest is said to be linked to allegations that he unlawfully intercepted the phone communications of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. Security sources stated that DSS operatives picked him up soon after his release by the EFCC in connection with that claim.
The development marks another turn in the legal issues surrounding the former governor, as different security and anti-graft agencies continue their investigations.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the next steps in the case.
