PDP BoT Holds 86th Meeting in Abuja

The Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday held its 86th meeting in Abuja, where party elders gathered to review the state of the party and discuss ongoing political developments.

The meeting was led by the chairman of the board, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, who welcomed members and thanked them for attending despite their many responsibilities within the party and the country.

During the meeting, Ohuabunwa said the gathering came at a crucial period in the life of the PDP as the party continues efforts to reorganise its internal structure. He explained that the Board of Trustees plays an important role in guiding the party and protecting its values and constitutional principles.

The chairman informed members that the party had recently carried out ward and local government congresses across the country as part of its internal processes.

According to him, the exercises were conducted peacefully in many areas and allowed party members at the grassroots level to take part in decisions affecting the party.

He also disclosed that preparations were ongoing for the next stage of the party’s internal activities. State congresses are expected to take place during the weekend, while the national convention of the PDP has been scheduled for March 29 and 30.

The convention is expected to provide an opportunity for the party to reorganise its leadership structure and strengthen unity among members.

Ohuabunwa also spoke about recent decisions by the Court of Appeal concerning the leadership of the party. He stated that the judgments had confirmed the authority of the National Caretaker Committee led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed. According to him, the party respects the decisions of the court and will continue to operate in line with the law and the provisions of its constitution.

The chairman further informed members about the party’s ongoing electronic registration exercise for members across the country. He explained that the digital registration process is aimed at improving the party’s membership system and ensuring a reliable record of members nationwide.

He called on state and zonal party leaders to encourage members to take part in the registration exercise so that the party can build a stronger and more organised structure. According to him, a proper database of members will help the PDP operate more effectively as it prepares for future political activities.

While addressing the gathering, Ohuabunwa also reminded party elders of their responsibility to guide the party during difficult moments. He said the PDP has faced challenges in the past but has often been able to overcome them through unity and cooperation among its leaders.

He urged members of the Board of Trustees to approach their discussions with patience and a willingness to work together for the good of the party. According to him, their decisions should focus on strengthening the PDP and protecting the interests of Nigerians who look to the party for leadership.

The meeting brought together senior members of the party who are expected to deliberate on issues affecting the PDP and discuss steps needed to improve unity within the organisation as it prepares for future political contests.
