PDP Caretaker Chairman Addresses BoT Meeting

The chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Abdulrahman Mohammed, on Wednesday in Abuja addressed members of the party’s Board of Trustees during their meeting, where he spoke about recent developments within the party and ongoing preparations for its national convention.

Mohammed, speaking before party elders and leaders, expressed appreciation to the Board of Trustees for the support given to the caretaker committee since it assumed responsibility for managing the affairs of the party.

He explained that the committee has continued to receive encouragement and cooperation from party leaders and members across the country.

He informed the gathering that the committee recently inspected the venue for the party’s upcoming national convention at the National Stadium in Abuja as part of preparations for the event.

According to him, the party has already completed ward and local government congresses as part of its internal political process and is preparing to conduct state congresses in some states.

The caretaker chairman also spoke about the recent decision of the Court of Appeal concerning the leadership dispute within the party. He stated that the court delivered rulings in several appeals related to the crisis and that the judgments favoured the caretaker committee.

Mohammed acknowledged the efforts of the party’s legal team and thanked party leaders, members and supporters who had shown support throughout the legal process.

He stated that the National Caretaker Working Committee remains the recognised national leadership of the party under the law and within the party structure.

According to him, the committee has the authority to manage the party’s activities and oversee preparations leading to the 2027 general elections, including the presentation of candidates for various positions.

Mohammed explained that the committee would obtain the Certified True Copy of the judgments delivered by the Court of Appeal in order to review them properly and prepare for any possible legal proceedings that may arise at the Supreme Court.

While addressing members at the meeting, the caretaker chairman urged party leaders and members to put aside internal disputes and work together to strengthen the PDP. He said continued legal battles could slow down the party’s preparations for future elections, including the 2027 general elections and other off-season polls.

He also noted the role of the Board of Trustees in guiding the party and maintaining its core principles. According to him, the board continues to serve as a body that provides direction and advice to the party’s leadership during important moments.

The meeting brought together senior members of the party who gathered to discuss the current situation within the PDP and explore ways to strengthen unity as the party prepares for upcoming political activities.

Mohammed assured the gathering that the caretaker committee would continue to work with the Board of Trustees and other leaders to carry out the responsibilities assigned to it by the party.
