Nigeria, UK Sign Deals on Migration, Border Security, Business Visas

On March 19, 2026, in the United Kingdom, the Federal Government of Nigeria and the government of the United Kingdom signed three agreements to strengthen cooperation in migration, border control, and business travel.

The agreements were signed by Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Nigerian government during his official visit.

The agreements focus on improving migration management, tackling organised immigration crime, and expanding access to business visas for UK companies operating in Nigeria. Two of the agreements were signed on Wednesday, while the third was concluded on Thursday, according to a statement released in Abuja.

The Nigerian government explained that the partnership is aimed at building a migration system that is safe, well-managed, and beneficial to both countries.

It also noted that the plan includes steps to ensure that migration processes follow national laws and international standards while protecting the rights of individuals.

As part of the deal, both countries agreed to work together over the next three years to address criminal networks involved in illegal migration.

This will involve closer cooperation between the UK Home Office and Nigeria’s Ministry of Interior to improve border security and reduce unlawful activities linked to migration.

The agreement on business visas is designed to make it easier for UK companies with verified investments in Nigeria to travel and carry out their activities. The arrangement is expected to support trade and business relations by allowing smoother movement for legitimate business travellers between both countries.

The Nigerian government also stated that the agreement is part of efforts to support economic growth and remove barriers that may affect trade and investment.

It added that the country remains open to partnerships that will promote development while ensuring that those who misuse legal systems or engage in crime are dealt with according to the law.

Officials from the United Kingdom welcomed the development and described the partnership as an important step in strengthening relations between both countries.

They noted that the agreements would bring benefits to both sides and improve cooperation in areas of shared interest.
