PDP Slams APC Over Nigeria’s Terrorism Ranking

On Thursday, March 19, 2026, in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party criticised the administration led by the All Progressives Congress over the country’s position in the 2026 Global Terrorism Index, saying the ranking reflects poor handling of security.

The reaction followed the release of a global report that placed Nigeria as the fourth most affected country by terrorism.

The report, published by the Institute for Economics and Peace, showed that the Sahel region remains a major centre of terrorist activities, accounting for a large share of global deaths linked to terrorism.

According to the findings, Nigeria recorded about 750 deaths in 2025, showing a rise compared to the previous year.
In its response, the PDP said the figures point to a worsening security situation across the country.

The party stated that the government has not met its responsibility to protect citizens and prevent attacks. It added that insecurity has continued to affect daily life, with cases of killings and kidnappings still being reported in different parts of the country.

The opposition party called on Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take stronger steps to address the situation and improve safety nationwide. It urged the government and security agencies to move beyond reactions after attacks and instead focus on measures that can prevent incidents and reduce violence.

The PDP also advised that broader strategies involving different sectors of society should be adopted to tackle insecurity and restore stability.

It maintained that protecting lives and property remains the main duty of any government and said more effort is needed to meet this responsibility.
