The Social Democratic Party in Imo State has set up a new interim executive to run its activities as preparations begin for the 2027 general elections. The decision is aimed at strengthening the party’s presence and improving its chances in future contests.

Chigozie Ekeogu was selected as the interim chairman to lead the new team. Other members were also appointed to take charge of different roles within the party structure. Their task includes mobilising new members and organising activities across the state.

The party’s national youth leader and former state chairman, Ifeanyi Henry Eluwa, explained that the move is meant to build a stronger base across all the 27 local government areas. He said the new leadership will guide the party through its congress and position it for the coming elections.

He added that the party remains focused on its core values and is working to expand its reach. According to him, many individuals interested in contesting elections in 2027 are already showing interest in joining the party due to its current structure and stability.
The outgoing chairman also dismissed claims of any merger with another political party, stating that such a decision has not been made. He expressed readiness to support the new leadership in achieving its goals.
In his remarks, Ekeogu appreciated the confidence placed in him and his team. He assured members that they will work to strengthen the party at the state, local government, and ward levels, with the aim of improving its performance in future elections.
