Osun APC Raises Alarm Over Planned Labour Protest

The All Progressives Congress in Osun State has alerted security agencies ahead of a planned protest by labour unions over the ongoing dispute on local government funds. The warning was made on Saturday through a statement issued in Osogbo, as the demonstration is expected to take place on March 24, 2026.

The party said the protest is being organised by leaders of the Joint Labour Movement, including members of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress.

According to the APC, the planned action is linked to disagreements over local government allocations paid by the Federal Government into certain accounts controlled by reinstated council officials, a move the state government is opposing.

Due to the dispute, the funds have remained in the custody of a bank since 2025, as issues surrounding control and authorised signatories are yet to be resolved. The APC expressed concern that the situation has led to tension, with labour unions preparing to mobilise members across different local government areas.

The party called on security agencies, including the police, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to closely monitor the situation and take steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order. It also claimed that the planned protest could disrupt banking operations and affect business activities if not properly managed.

The APC further alleged that the planned protest followed meetings between labour leaders and officials within the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

As of the time of the report, neither the state government nor labour leaders had responded to the claims made by the party.
