Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party with immediate effect. The announcement was made on March 29, 2026, through a statement in which he explained that the decision was part of a broader political shift ahead of future elections.

Kwankwaso, who served as the party’s National Leader and represented it in the 2023 presidential race, said his departure followed changes in the political environment.
