Wike-backed PDP affirms Mohammed, Anyanwu as chairman, secretary

In Abuja, Nigeria, on Sunday, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party supported by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, approved Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary during its national convention.

The decision was taken by about 2,500 delegates who gathered at the convention venue in Abuja, where party members met to decide on leadership positions and the direction of the group. The delegates also endorsed a full list of national officers, forming a 19-member National Working Committee to manage party affairs.

The motion to approve the list of leaders was presented by Kingsley Chinda and supported by Usman Adamu, after which the delegates agreed to the arrangement.
Other party officials confirmed at the convention include Aaron Chukwuemeka as Deputy National Chairman for the South and Yusuf Nya Akirikwen as Deputy National Chairman for the North.

Several other positions such as treasurer, legal adviser, organising secretary, and publicity roles were also filled during the exercise.

Additional members of the committee include Kolawale Olabisi, Odeyemei Mackson Oladiran, Lado Dan Marke, Eyim Donatus Henry, Grema Kyari, Umar Mohammed Bature, Efere Augustine, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, Egwu Goodluck Chidiebere, Kamaldeen Ajibade, Aloysius Uba, Osuoha Donatus, Adaba Yatu, Ibrahim Bala Aboki, and Momoh Dejih Eugene Bashir. The roles of National Women Leader and Deputy National Women Leader were assigned to Professor Ogunshe Adedayo and Hauwa Ahmed Shinge.

The convention forms part of efforts by the Wike-aligned group to strengthen its structure within the party despite ongoing disagreements and divisions among members across the country.

The development reflects the continuing struggle for control within the PDP as different groups work to establish their leadership ahead of future elections.
