#OccupyINEC: Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso Lead ADC Protest Against INEC

In Abuja on Wednesday, leaders and supporters of the African Democratic Congress held a protest tagged #OccupyINEC to challenge recent decisions by the Independent National Electoral Commission, which they believe affect the party’s leadership and the country’s democratic process.

The demonstration took place at Maitama Roundabout and drew several opposition figures and party members.

Among those present were Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rotimi Amaechi, Rauf Aregbesola, Aminu Tambuwal, Dino Melaye and David Mark, alongside many supporters, including members of the Kwankwasiyya movement.

During the rally, participants sang the country’s former national anthem as a form of protest, even though it had earlier been replaced with another anthem approved by Bola Tinubu. Demonstrators also carried placards showing support for a faction within the party led by David Mark.

The protest followed a decision by INEC to stop recognising communications from the rival factions within the ADC after a court ruling on the party’s leadership dispute. The party and other opposition groups believe this move interferes with internal party matters and could weaken opposition politics in the country.

Speaking during the protest, party leaders called on Nigerians to remain involved in protecting democratic values and resisting any move that could lead to a one-party system. Organisers said the rally was aimed at drawing attention to what they see as growing concerns about how political institutions are being managed.

The demonstration ended peacefully, with participants urging continued public engagement on issues affecting governance and political balance in the country.
