In Kogi State on Wednesday, the state chapter of the African Democratic Congress told its members to ignore a notice claiming that party congresses had been suspended, stating that the directive did not follow proper procedure. The position was made known in a statement issued by the party’s publicity secretary, Abdumalik Suleiman.

The party explained that the announcement reportedly came from the outgoing state chairman, Kingsley Ogga, but maintained that he does not have the power to stop congress activities in the state. According to the chapter, only the party’s national leadership has the authority to make such decisions regarding internal electoral processes.

It also stated that stopping the congresses goes against earlier resolutions reached by the party’s National Executive Committee, which had approved the continuation of all activities leading to the national convention. The state chapter added that the National Working Committee had already cleared the congresses to hold as scheduled across all levels.

Party officials in the state urged aspirants, delegates, and members to remain calm and continue preparations, assuring them that ward, local government, state, and national congresses would take place as planned. They warned that any attempt to disrupt the process through unauthorised directives would be treated as a violation of party rules.
The chapter reaffirmed its commitment to due process and internal order, stating that it would not allow actions that could affect the party’s structure or planned activities in the state.
