ADC conducts congresses in Ebonyi

The African Democratic Congress has completed a round of congresses across Ebonyi State as part of its preparations for upcoming elections. The exercise covered all local government areas, wards, and polling units in the state and is expected to continue until the end of April.

Officials of the party said the process was designed to build a stronger presence at the grassroots level. The congress committee in the state explained that the party chose not to use a delegates system. Instead, candidates are to emerge either through agreement among members or through direct voting.

Members of the committee stated that the approach would allow more participation and give members a direct role in choosing their leaders. They also assured party members that the process would be conducted in a fair and open manner.

The state leadership of the party reported a high turnout of members during the exercise. Party officials praised supporters for taking part and urged them to remain active as the party continues its activities.

The party also confirmed that it informed the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the exercise in line with electoral rules. Security agencies were present in different areas to monitor the process and maintain order.

In some parts of the state, officials were returned through agreement among members. For example, in Ezza North Local Government Area and some wards, leaders retained their positions after members agreed on their continuation.

The party announced that its primaries are scheduled to take place between April 23 and April 30. These steps are part of efforts to prepare the party early for the 2027 general elections.

Observers within the party said the early start to these activities shows a plan to strengthen its position and expand its influence in Ebonyi State ahead of the next election cycle.
